In November of last year, Ben Curry (with Mindsharp), contacted me about the possibility of speaking at the Best Practices SharePoint Conference 2009. Of course I was elated with the opportunity; this is a fantastic, and quite unique, venue for anyone interested in understanding how to gain value from Microsoft SharePoint. Around mid-December, my sessions were accepted. I am quite honored to be included with the line-up you will find at this conference.
You will be able to attend sessions from industry experts, MVP's and heavy-hitters such as Joel Oleson, Amanda Murphy, Andrew Woodward, Ben Curry, Ben Robb, Bill English, Bob Fox, Brad Smith, Brett Londsdale, Dan Holme, Eric Shupps, Gary Lapointe, Jason Medero, Laura Rogers, Maurice Prather, Rob Bogue, Todd Bleeker and many more... My apologies for those names I didn't list; there is just too many. For a complete list of all speakers, please see the conference site speaker bios page.
So why the heck would you attend this conference?
Many have heard me say, time and time again; "To truly be successful with your enterprise-class SharePoint implementation requires a myriad of people, business and technical skills." More than 50% of the customers Mixon Consulting work with are on their 2nd or 3rd round with SharePoint; experiencing dramatic and costly failures. To be quite honest, SharePoint Technology is complex but it can be mastered. I rarely hear of SharePoint Document/Content Management Systems failing because of technology.
So why are they failing?
Its primarily due to corporations not thoroughly understanding how to successfully govern an enterprise-class deployment, understand what user needs really are, manage content using (multiple) taxonomies, providing relevant search results. Again, technology is a big part of this; however, it has been my experience that technology alone cannot solve these types of problems.
At the Best Practices SharePoint Conference 2009 you will learn about topics such as:
- How to align information architectures and findability.
- Best practices for developing Web Parts.
- How to sell Governance to your organization.
- How to Govern development in your environment.
- How to craft data, topical and task-based taxonomies.
This is but a few of the topics covered at this conference. And, you will find, being armed with this information will increase your chances of success!
